Bulgaria ranks 112th in the latest World Press Freedom Index of Reporters Without Borders which includes a total of 180 countries across the globe. In 2020, Bulgaria held the 111th position. The decline is the result of cases of violence against journalists in Bulgaria and the non-transparent financing of media by the Bulgarian state using European funds.
