An exhibition of spring and Easter-related postcards takes us 100 years back in time. The exhibition is organized by the Hristo Botev Regional Library in the city of Vratsa. Visitors can take a look at old Vratsa through specially selected 21 greeting cards.
Memories and stories in the exhibition allow visitors to take a look at the ballroom of the Military Club in the city, see the favorite local area of Butov Dol where people used to celebrate with horo dances, or go all the way to Venice on an Easter boat trip accompanied by an orchestra or a gramophone…
The unique collection can be seen in front of the library building on the eve of the bright holiday. "Traditionally, we organize exhibitions when Palm Sunday and Easter come. For some years we have focused on one of our interesting collections of postcards, which is being constantly enriched," Kalina Todorova of the Local History Department of the library tells BNR-Vidin and adds:
"This year we decided to keep the Easter tradition and show a selection of 21 favorite postcards, as well as to organize an online exhibition, so that it can be seen in the future. In addition to following the tradition, we decided to challenge young people in a new way, taking them 100 years back in time with our stories about the holiday. That is why we focus on Easter in old Vratsa and the postcard as a message, as a bearer of a festive blessing to the closest ones."
The greeting cards from the Easter exhibition not only take us back in time but also reveal interesting moments from the life and culture of our predecessors. Some of the exhibits tell us of personal stories and romantic love. For example, there is a story that takes us to the middle of the XX century in order to be part of the balls in the Military Club in Vratsa and the city of Pleven. "There is a love story related to one of our hand-painted cards, which was donated to us by Valentina Petrova, along with love letters of her grandparents," Kalina Todorova says.
The epistolary exhibition also aims at provoking its guests. Everyone has the opportunity to send their Easter wish to a loved one by choosing a card, filling the recipient's address in, and putting the card in a special mailbox. Organizers will make sure that the Easter messages reach their recipients in time.
