The Supreme Court of Cassation has confirmed the acquittal of former Defence Minister Nikolay Nenchev for the repair of Russian MiG fighter jets.

The final “not guilty” verdict comes after five and a half years of investigation and judicial proceedings at three instances. Nikolay Nenchev was charged with having circumvented the contracts for the repair of the Russian-made fighter aircraft and concluding a contract with Poland, defrauding RSK MiG of almost 49 million leva (25 million euro). The Supreme Court of Cassation states that the motives for the ruling are not public because the information concerning the case is confidential.
