The EU General Affairs Council discussed the enlargement of the European Union and the accession of the Western Balkan countries. Ambassador Dimiter Tzantchev, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Bulgaria to the European Union, defended the position of Bulgaria regarding North Macedonia’s application for EU membership, reported the correspondent of the BNR in Brussels Angelina Piskova.
“For the first time in the history of EU enlargement, a candidate country insists on determining the conditions for the launch of accession negotiations itself, on a par with the member countries. For the first time, a candidate country states that it does not consider itself obliged to fulfill the agreements it has signed with an EU member state. If we allow such a behavior, tomorrow another candidate country may think that it can behave in the same way”, stressed Ambassador Dimiter Tzantchev, referring to North Macedonia.
