The Syrian Arif Majid has headed the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation. He was elected at the General Assembly by 24 to 6 votes against the current president Nedelcho Kolev. Majid is the son of a businessman who owns a fast-food chain.
"I am a big fan of weightlifting. I practice weightlifting myself and go to the gym regularly. Our company is a big employer and I promise that we will attract sponsors for the activities of the federation," said the candidate and invited his predecessor to cooperate.
It is reported that in 2020 the federation received 557,000 euros from the state. 250,000 were spent on Olympic training, 215,000 on training and recovery activities for the national teams and 160,000 euros on salaries.
