The 9th edition of the national sheep breeders’ festival is beginning today close to the Saints Peter and Paul Monastery near the village of Arbanassi in the region of Veliko Turnovo.

As of today until 20 June professionals in the sector from all over the country, lovers of traditional arts and crafts, cuisine, and farmers’ food will meet days before the Christian feast of Saints Peter and Paul.

The event, which combines the economic aspect of sheep breeding with Bulgarian tradition and folklore, is organized by the National Sheep and Goat Breeding Association, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and local municipalities.

The festival officially opens at 11 AM with a ritual to banish evil spirits performed by kukeri from the renowned “101 kaba bagpipes” orchestra and the Katsatonis dance ensemble from Karlovo.
