The rise in the prices of natural gas and oil will inevitably push up the price of central heating and hot water, Ivan Ivanov, chairman of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission stated.

Adding to this the dramatic rise in the price of carbon emissions, prices are going to go up considerably. In connection with this, the energy watchdog is proposing a rise in the price of thermal energy by an average of 10%, for Sofia – 14%. The final decision will be announced on 1 July, as will whether the price of electricity will go up by more than the planned 3%.

To keep TPP Maritsa-Iztok 2 functioning, a decision is expected allowing the thermal power station to sell a certain amount of its expensive electric energy on the regulated market.
