“The coronavirus mutations are growing weaker, making it less aggressive. The mutations that will follow will mean less severe cases of Covid-19,” Prof. Penka Petrova, director of the institute of Microbiology said for the BNR’s Horizont channel.

She added that for now it does not look like there will be a new wave of coronavirus triggered by the Delta variant because only one Delta case has so far been registered in Bulgaria.

“The neighbouring countries – Greece and Romania – have been reporting whole genomes of the Indian variant, whereas we never proved its existence in a second patient. I believe that we have managed to contain it very successfully.”

The symptoms of the Delta variant are: running nose, headache, sore throat, and this is the reason why these symptoms are not treated as coronavirus and tests are not performed, Prof. Petrova said.
