Migration pressure at border rising

There is an increased migration pressure on the country, but it is not uncommon. This is how the caretaker Minister of Interior Boyko Rashkov assessed the situation in response to a question in parliament.

The Minister clarified that the trafficking route through Southeast Europe was still busy. The main goal of migrants was reaching the countries of Western Europe. Bulgaria continues to be a transit country and not the final destination for migrants. Conflicts in the Middle East and Afghanistan have been causing the pressure to rise.

There is an increased influx of illegal migrants from the interior parts of Turkey towards Edirne. The concentration of a significant number of migrants in Turkey and northern Greece is a prerequisite for increasing illegal trafficking to Bulgaria, Minister Rashkov says.
