Influx of illegal immigrants to Sofia

More than 70 illegal migrants have been detained in Sofia in the course of three days -July 31st, August 1st and August 2, it was reported

The police have told BNR that in recent weeks illegal migrants are detained every day in the capital city. The biggest number of illegal immigrants were detained in Sofia on July 31st – a total of 55 people. Another 6 were detained on the next day and two more were detained on August 2. Police often finds migrants in unexpected places, as they are abandoned by traffickers in areas near Sofia around the Trakia highway. Most often, these are young men from Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq. The Sofia Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior is also actively monitoring the area around the Central Railway Station, where an increased presence of migrants is usually seen.
