Minister of Economy in the caretaker government Kiril Petkov announced that he received confirmation, last Friday, that he is no longer a Canadian citizen.

“The Canadian authorities informed me that the documents certifying this fact have been sent to the Canadian embassy in Romania, where I can pick them up,” he said.

In his words this puts an end to the speculations surrounding his dual citizenship. Minister Petkov pointed out that Bulgaria is his homeland and that, as previously, he will continue to uphold the interests of all honest Bulgarian citizens. Kiril Petkov sent the media a copy of the act by force of which he relinquishes his Canadian citizenship, submitted on 21 April, 2021.
