From October 1, the minimum pension in Bulgaria will be BGN 370 (EUR 189) instead of the current BGN 300 /EUR 153/. This was decided by the budget committee in the parliament, which discussed at second reading the update of the State Social Security budget for 2021, BNR reported.

The remaining pensions should be increased by an average of 12.5% and this will be achieved by increasing the weight of the coefficient for one year of service, the commission approved. The request of GERB-SDS that by the end of the year all pensioners should receive a supplement of BGN 100 /EUR 51/ was rejected.
GERB MP Denitsa Sacheva said it would be demotivating for half of pensioners to receive BGN 370, which will be below the poverty line after January 1st. Then it becomes BGN 413 /EUR 211/ compared to BGN 369 /EUR 188/ at the moment. The MPs from GERB-SDS did not take part in the vote.
The second reading in the plenary hall is scheduled for September 7.
