Bulgaria's Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev surprisingly came to parliament to warn lawmakers that the state prosecution refused to take responsibility for the consequences of closing the specialized court and prosecutor's office and relocating the Witness Protection Bureau to the justice ministry.
According to him, the adoption of the bills will lead to low efficiency of the prosecution and a boom in crime, comparable to that of the 1990s. In addition, witnesses in key cases will remain defenseless, and cases against organized crime will have to start over.
