The 4th edition of the “Weekend in Plovdiv” festival is bringing together the efforts of the people employed in the tourist industry for the development of the city as an attractive holiday destination, and promoting its cultural routes.
From 17 to 19 September there will be three events, which will be free of charge – “Weekend in Plovdiv tour”, the show “Phoney civilization” at Theatre Hand, as well as a series of screenings at Arena cinema in one of the city’s shopping centres.
In the words of Plamen Panov, Deputy Mayor for Culture, Archaeology and Tourism the aim of the festival is to attract more tourists. He added that there was a 21% increase in overnight stays this year, though the number of foreign tourists has dropped by 21%.
“If there has been anything positive at all about Covid-19, the pandemic actually boosted domestic tourism in this country. Tourism is an experience, and we, tour guides will endeavor to demonstrate Plovdiv’s different faces,” said Rumyana Titeryakova from the Association of Bulgarian Tour Guides.
