The state authorities are monitoring the situation in the hospitals. Last week the Covid-19 units in Bulgaria operated at 70% to 90% of their total capacity. The hospitals in Sofia, Gabrovo, Vidin, Montana, Kyustendil and Pernik are becoming overwhelmed. The shortage of medical staff is the biggest problem during the fourth wave of Covid-19, this country’s Chief Health State Inspector Associate Professor Angel Kunchev said in an interview for Nova TV.
“Bulgaria needs to speed up the Covid-19 vaccine rollout”, said Angel Kunchev. “Apparently, we are in the most difficult phase of the fourth wave. If we fail to speed up the vaccine rollout, we will have problems with the forthcoming tourist season. It will be dificult to organise any types of events”, Angel Kunchev noted. However, in his view, another lockdown is not necessary at this point.
