Road construction workers protest again in Sofia

Road construction workers are protesting for the second consecutive day in central Sofia. The companies from Bulgarian Branch Chamber “Roads” insist that they receive at least EUR 300 million until the end of 2021 out of all EUR 450 million due.

This country’s caretaker Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Violeta Komitova invited the owners of road construction and road maintenance companies to sign contracts for winter road maintenance and repair. Minister Komitova is adamant that only a new National Assembly can allocate the funds due, which were not foreseen in the amended state budget. However, the business refused a dialogue with Minister Komitova and demanded her resignation instead. The construction companies called for direct talks with caretaker Premier Stefan Yanev.
