Assoc. Prof. Dr. Angel Kunchev has been awarded the Doctor of the Year 2021 distinction. Bulgaria's Chief State Health Inspector, who also celebrates his birthday on October 19, receives the highest award from the Bulgarian Medical Association (BMA).

"Throughout his professional career, Assoc. Prof. Angel Kunchev has worked tirelessly to solve problems in the healthcare system, and since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic he has shown consistent work, boldly defending his positions," the official announcement for the awards reads.
Due to the epidemic situation in the country this year there will be no official ceremony, as is the tradition on the day of the healer St. Ivan Rilski.
The high distinction will be handed to Angel Kunchev at a later date.
