Relations between Bulgaria and Great Britain after Brexit have become the focus of a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev and British Ambassador Rob Dixon. The Bulgarian side pointed out the need to resolve many bilateral issues, including those in the social sphere while the British side expressed its readiness to take the necessary steps.

More than 300,000 Bulgarian citizens reside in the UK permanently and according to the British Embassy in Sofia, there are 12,000 British permanent residents in Bulgaria.

Relations in education have also been an important topic of discussions. Universities in the UK are among the most preferred by Bulgarian students. About 6,500 Bulgarians are currently studying in the UK.

Ambassador Dixon expressed hope that the interests of Bulgarian students in the UK will be protected. He said that authorities have been working on joint projects between Bulgarian and British universities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported.
