The United States is considering including Bulgaria in a program that allows citizens to visit the country and stay there for up to 90 days. This became clear from a statement by US Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.
Apart from Bulgaria, the decision will be made for 3 more countries - Israel, Cyprus and Romania.
To enter the program, a country must meet requirements related to counter-terrorism, law enforcement, document security and border management. In addition, the proportion of applications for non-immigrant visas refused must be permanently below 3%.
Currently, 40 countries are on Washington's list of visa-free travel and stays of up to three months.
