Saint Menas - the patron saint of family and travelers

Today, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church honors the memory of the Holy Martyr Menas (Saint Mina), considered the patron saint of the family, orphans and the homeless, as well as of people who have a long way to travel. On this day, the faithful pray to St. Menas for the health and well-being of their family and children. He is also revered as a saint who helps soldiers because the saint himself was a brave warrior.

On this day, the monastery of "St. Mina" located near the village of Obradovtsi close to Sofia, which in the Middle Ages was part of the ring of monasteries around Bulgaria’s present capital, celebrates its holiday. You can read more about the monastery here.
