Bulgaria’s Ministry of Interior and the National Customs Agency can now submit signals to the European Public Prosecutor's Office on instituted criminal proceedings. Until now, only the Supreme Prosecutor's Office of Cassation had this opportunity. The European Public Prosecutor's Office will assess whether there are breaches affecting the EU’s financial interests. The European Prosecutor's Office then has the right to seize the proceedings and do its own investigation.
