Musicology Live is a path to get acquainted with Bulgarian pop, soul, rock, funk, R&B music. Popular DJ Marten Roberto and the unique addition to his Saturday show Musicology on the air of BNR’s "Radio Sofia" takes us on this path. The audience get acquainted with talented Bulgarian artists, who define the true rhythm of this part of Bulgaria’s contemporary music.
"As an exceptional fan of art, music and in particular of the Bulgarian music scene, I had a great desire to realize a project presenting Bulgarian artists in my own way," Marten says. “So, after serious planning and great support from the colleagues in the National Radio, we received the opportunity to use the unique Studio 1, which has been a stage to amazing music legends over the years. This is a real honor to me. Musicology Live presents boutique acoustic concerts that are a little more intimate. The setting is decorated in a similar way. The whole studio is darkened and we have spot lighting only in the middle. Everything sounds very beautiful and elegant and the atmosphere fits well the selection of musicians who participate in these live performances.”
Associations with MTV's popular Unplugged concerts from the past are possible to emerge in the minds of music fans, but this effect was not sought after when planning the show. "Our desire is to provide a stage and support to contemporary Bulgarian musicians," Marten Roberto says. He adds that in Bulgaria there are artists who make music that is absolutely worthy of the world stage and they will be part of the new project. His ambition is to have an episode of Musicology Live at least once a month, lasting 20 to 30 minutes. The main idea is for the concerts to be watched on the Musicology Live channel on YouTube and aired by BNR - Radio Sofia. The start on November 20 included young singer Elena Sirakova. "A very elegant lady who made great impression on the audience a few years ago," Marten says about her.
"She grabbed my attention two years ago with her single 'Tolkova Studen.' And less than a year ago the EP ‘Galaxy’ was presented, which was produced by one of the most talented music producers and musicians in Bulgaria - Bozhidar Vassilev-Trombobby. You will be able to see him as part of an exclusive formation in the second episode of Musicology Live."
Marten Roberto is responsible for the selection of musicians in Musicology Live and the only criterion is the high quality and value of music. "Music is the way our feelings sound and in Musicology Live we want to provide our listeners with beautiful and valuable emotions," he says.
