"The twentieth edition of The Universe of Computer Music is part of the celebrations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of New Bulgarian University, so 2021 is really special for us," Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rositsa Becheva, a lecturer in the Department of Music says. The idea of the organizers of the festival over the years has been the inclusion of young artists working in the field of electronic music, expanding their cultural and creative horizons.

"Electro-acoustic music is also presented at this festival that features live performances with both acoustic and electronic instruments,” Assoc. Prof. Becheva says. “We see that the dividing line  between musicians working with acoustic sound and creators of electronic music has been blurred. The forum is one of the proofs of this because it brings together composers working in different genres. By creating interdisciplinary projects, we get to know truly valuable examples of our contemporary music practice.”

This festive edition of "The Universe of Computer Music" in the period December 1 to December 11 includes concerts presenting contemporary music, practical demonstrations and training courses for playing electronic instruments, as well as meetings with some of the best professionals from around the world who will make NBU students acquainted with new trends in creating electronic music.

"I definitely want to point out the role of Prof. Dr. Simo Lazarov, who has been managing the festival, created by him, for decades and who has been working tirelessly to promote electronic sound extraction.

Prof. Dr. Simo Lazarov

The most important thing for us is presenting the works created last year at the Training and Practical Research Center for Computer Music and Sound Design ‘Stanislav Stanchev-Stanley’ at NBU. The multi-disciplinary project we are presenting for the sixth consecutive year is called ‘Paintings from Bulgaria’ For their work on the fifth edition of the project our students received ‘Crystal Lyre’ - the highest award in this country for sound engineering and sound design. We as lectures are extremely happy for the creative achievements of our students. The team work continues on the next edition of the CD album that we are going to present on December 11 on the air of the Bulgarian National Radio. We achieve all these successes with the great support of the university as the equipment and technological innovations of the research center are one of the conditions for creating works of the highest world level. Let us also recall that in 1996 the NBU established the first computer music making specialization in this country and last year it marked its 25th anniversary."
