A Bulgarian folklore-style Christmas tree is part of the 79th exhibition Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
The tree is decorated with puppets, as well as decorations made of wood, pottery and fabric. Some of the ornaments were made, in compliance with the Bulgarian tradition and rituals, by Bulgarians living in the US, others were commissioned from Bulgaria. “Underneath the Christmas tree we have arranged figures clad in traditional costumes, ritual loaves of bread, a kuker, all of them connected with the traditions of Christmas Eve, the koledari (carol, singers – editorial note), survachki (intertwined cornel twigs, intertwined cornel twigs – editorial note),” Anna-Maria Buneva said for the BNR.
