In the fishing village of Chengene Skele near Burgas, fishermen celebrate St. Nicholas Day once again, now according to the Julian calendar. The holiday is celebrated by blessing the boats and throwing wreaths and flowers into the sea.
"On the 19th of December we celebrate the holiday again and the whole fishing community gathers. We throw wreaths and flowers into the sea to ask St. Nicholas for better catch and to pay tribute to all our friends who are not among us,” fisherman Georgi Dimov says.
Fish dishes are also prepared and a concert is organized, including many songs about the sea and life of fishermen.
