“Christmas embrace” by Lucy Diakovska and the Pleven Philharmonic Orchestra

“A concert programme conveying a message of courage and wisdom in all endeavours, of the steps we take every day, of the responsibility we have for our own selves and for the social environment, of the joy of the beautiful Christmas emotions with the family” – that is how Lucy Diakovska presents her concerts which traditionally take place just before Christmas. Two of them – in Pleven and in Sofia – were a resounding success. She is yet to present her “Christmas embrace” in Varna, in hall No. 1 of the Festival and Congress Centre.

The performers present Christmas music from the 16th century right down to our day, by composers from Italy, France, England, America, Russia and Bulgaria.

Temperamental, eccentric and emotional, Lucy Diakovska never fails to thank her family, in which there are several generations of professional musicians. The finale of the Christmas programme – Holy House, music by Lucy Diakovska and lyrics by Ivan Valev - is a tribute to her grandfather Ivan Valev, conductor, composer and long-time artistic director of the Severnyashki Ensemble. Holy House, in which folk singers from the Ensemble take part, is a song about the warmth of home, the power of our roots - an anchor for every human being far from home.
