European Chief Prosecutor Laura Kövesi and Sotir Tsatsarov, chairman of the Bulgarian anti-corruption commission, the Commission for Anti-Corruption and Illegal Assets Forfeiture, signed a cooperation agreement.

The Commission informs the European Public Prosecutor's Office, without undue delay, of any criminal behavior within its competence, the document reads. The European prosecutors will be able to assign and monitor ex-ante verifications.

The cooperation will also cover illegal assets forfeiture. The Bulgarian side will be notified of every indictment which necessitates an asset inspection. The commission can be assigned the right of attachments and foreclosure, as well as asset management.

Four checks of abusive practices involving EU funding have already been assigned.
