Danger of avalanches in Western Bulgaria

Photo: archive

As a result of the snowfall and the wind, there exists a serious danger of avalanches in the mountains Rila, Vitosha and Pirin, the Bulgarian Extreme and FreeSkiing Association warns. The danger warning remains in place in the coming days when a strong and tempestuous wind is expected to push temperatures up. The advice to tourists and skiers is to choose established itineraries.

Three people from a group of four skiers found themselves in an avalanche below Malyovitsa peak, but were able to escape from the extreme situation by themselves, the Association says.
