Bulgaria reports a sharp rise in new Covid infections

Bulgaria has registered 6,252 new coronavirus infections for the last 24 hours. This is 4,334 more new cases than a day earlier. 73% of the newly infected persons have not been vaccinated. 14.6% of the 42,828 tests performed returned positive, compared to 11% on Tuesday, according to the National Coronavirus Information Portal.


The number of registered active cases has increased to 111,467. A total of 4,477 patients are currently hospitalized as 468 are in intensive care. Of the 887 persons newly admitted to hospital, 83% are not vaccinated.

157 people with an established Covid-19 infection died during the past day, as 142 of them were not immunized. 

24,947 vaccine jabs were administered on Tuesday. 1,921,662 Bulgarians are now fully vaccinated.
