The Ludogorets forward wins the distinction for the second time in his career, vying against Martin Kamburov (Beroe) and Georgi Yomov (CSKA). Despodov earned 203 points, 156 points ahead of Kamburov and 72 ahead of Tomov at the 61st award ceremony, held online due to the coronavirus pandemic.
