Bulgaria’s air traffic control administration is ready to operate the increased air traffic over Bulgaria.

Air traffic is expected to increase by around 40%. The Ukrainian authorities closed the country’s entire airspace to civilian flights, including the airports. Moscow closed the airports in Southern Russia.

Meanwhile, Sofia Airport has been given permission to operate direct flights to USA, after a team from the Department of Homeland Security of the US Transportation Security Administration inspected Sofia airport, and ascertained that the aviation security measures applied at Bulgaria’s biggest airport are effective.
