Bulgaria’s National Assembly has adopted a declaration condemning the blatant violation of international law by the Russian Federation and the encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity. The declaration also reads that the Parliament supports Bulgaria’s allies from the European Union and NATO in discussing a package of measures, including sanctions against Russia, to de-escalate the conflict. Bulgaria’s MPs also supports the government in providing aid to Ukraine.

The Parliament also supported the Bulgarian government insisting that the protection of the life and health of civilians in the region be an absolute priority. It also supports the cabinet in assisting Bulgarian citizens and Bulgarians with Ukrainian citizenship living in Ukraine, if they request evacuation. Bulgaria’s National Assembly expects the Bulgarian government to propose a plan to deal with the consequences of the military action. Only “Vazrazhdane” party voted against the document. One MP from “We Continue the Change” abstained. “There is no direct threat to Bulgaria”, Premier Kiril Petkov said in Parliament.
