The technical approval of the Recovery and Resillience Plan is expected on March 15, after which the assignment of projects can begin, Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister Assen Vassilev said. He confirmed that according to the document, only energy facilities that do not meet environmental standards, such as Brikel and Bobov Dol, would be closed. The Deputy Prime Minister assessed the latest changes in the plan as positive for Bulgaria, especially at the backdrop of the situation in Ukraine.

"It would have affected us much worse if we had accepted the closure of facilities in the Maritsa basin and the construction of a steam and gas plant." The plan includes the construction of facilities for storing electricity through batteries, Assen Vassilev said. According to him, the maintenance of such a facility was a matter of national security, especially in cases of disruption of global supplies and communication routes.
