The Academic Council of the University of Veliko Tarnovo has stripped Vladimir Putin of the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa. The members of the council unanimously voted to repeal the decision by which the award for "contribution to the peaceful development of the modern world" was awarded to the Russian president 13 years ago.

"I appointed a commission to investigate the facts and found that the decision такен 13 years ago was illegal. The decision of the Academic Council from today is not political ", the rector of the University of Veliko Tarnovo, Prof. Hristo Bondзхolov, commented for BNR.
One month ago, the Veliko Tarnovo branch of the Green Movement demanded that Putin's honorary title be revoked.
