The Prosecutor's Office has initiated pre-trial proceedings for abuse of office against Deputy Premier Assen Vassilev, Minister of Interior Boyko Rashkov announced. More information on the case will be available tomorrow, said Hristo Krastev, Spekesperson of Bulgaria’s Specialized Prosecutor’s Office.

Hristo Krastev clarified that under to the current legislation, pre-trial proceedings can be instituted only for a suspected crime, not against certain individuals. Several days ago, following a complaint of a citizens association, Hristo Krastev himself refused to initiate pre-trial proceedings against Deputy Premier Vassilev. One week ago, the company Insa Oil, owned by Georgi Samuilov, announced that they were going to refer a statement of Deputy Prime Minister Asen Vassilev, made in a TV interview, to the Prosecutor’s Office.
