About 200,000 refugees are expected to arrive in Bulgaria in the coming weeks, according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. According to the statistics of the information portal "Bulgaria for Ukraine", Bulgaria has sheltered over 62,000 Ukrainian citizens, as 31,000 of them already have the status of temporary protection.
There are nearly 40,000 people accommodated in hotel bases, and in order for hoteliers to benefit from state support, Bulgaria has extended until mid-April the right of refugees from the war to receive temporary protection without their express will and registration.
According to the latest data from the State Agency for Refugees, 41% of asylum seekers in Bulgaria are minors. Many of those arriving in Bulgaria need treatment for war injuries or chronic illnesses. Currently, they have free access only to emergency medical care.
