Bulgarian MEP Angel Dzhambazki has been fined by "depriving him of monetary compensation for a period of six days" because of his gesture, which was perceived as a Nazi salute in the European Parliament, said the President of the European Parliament Roberta Mezzola.

The incident took place during the EP plenary session in Strasbourg in mid-February this year. After speaking in the plenary, the deputy from the European Conservatives and Reformists party defiantly raised his right hand while climbing up the stairs.

Angel Dzhambazki rejected accusations that he had made a Nazi salute and said it was a goodbye gesture. His fine amounts to about 2 thousand euros, but can be appealed.
