Traditionally, Easter eggs are dyed on Holy Thursday. The first one, as we know, should always be red - in the opinion of theologians, this color is a symbol of Christ's suffering on the cross and His Resurrection.
Some of the hymns sung in Bulgarian Orthodox churches on Holy Thursday are only heard on this day. Among them is the chant „Razboynika Blagorazumnago“ ("To the Prudent Thief"), dedicated to the thief who was crucified with Christ and repented of his sins.
Seeing his true repentance, the Son of God told him, "Today you will be with me in Heaven."
The hymn „Razboynika Blagorazumnago“, whose music was written by Peter Dinev, is especially popular in the performance of the great Bulgarian bass opera singer Boris Hristov and the choir at the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
