NSI: Government debt reaches 25.1% of the GDP

The General Government sector reported a deficit of EUR 2.8 billion, or 4.1% of the country’s gross domestic product, preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute indicate. The deficit in Central Government amounted to EUR 3.3 billion, or 4.8% of the GDP, while Local Government reported a surplus to the tune of EUR 75 million. The Social Security Funds generated a surplus to the tune of EUR 414 million. 

Meanwhile, the government debt reached EUR 17 billion, or 25.1% of the GDP - a record high since the introduction of the currency board in 1997.
