Increase in tourists during summer season in Bulgaria expected

“A 30% increase this summer season compared to last year’s is attainable,” Deputy Minister of Tourism Irena Georgieva said for the Bulgarian news agency BTA.

She added that the booking of over 10,500 flights to Varna and Burgas is cause for cautious optimism. A replication of the results from the winter season is to be expected, when a 106% increase was registered compared to 2021. No tourists can be expected from the Russian or the Ukrainian market – usually 300,000-400,000 in number, or 10% of the tourists holidaying on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast. These numbers are expected to be compensated for by arrivals from Romania and Poland, where interest in Bulgaria has been growing, as well as from Germany, Slovakia and Israel. “As before, we are relying on the domestic market,” Georgieva said.
