President Rumen Radev met with representatives of the academic community at the Agricultural University in Plovdiv. "During my visit to Spain, I learned that Bulgaria's role in the agricultural sector is growing," Radev said, noting that the Spanish administration has expressed gratitude for Bulgaria's guarantee of wheat, sunflower and corn imports. Similarly, many EU countries are in intensive correspondence with the Bulgarian authorities, asking them to guarantee Bulgarian imports. "We are talking about food security," the President said, adding that food starvation leads to security problems.

The President also spoke about the challenges facing agricultural science and acknowledged that with 0.7% of GDP allocated to research and low salaries for scientists, progress will be difficult.
