“Because of the costly emission quotas, coal-fired thermal power plants may have to close down for economic reasons,” Minister of Environment and Water Borislav Sandov stated in Blagoevgrad.

Minister Sandov pointed out that emission quota payments constitute a significant share of the expenditure of TPPs, and in time they may have to close down so as not to accumulate very serious debts. Borislav Sandov added that Maritza Iztok-3 TPP in Dimitrovgrad will not resume work until the necessary air purification improvements are carried out.
