The US Embassy in Sofia thanked the Bulgarian citizens and the Prosecutor's Office for condemning hate speech." Thank you to the Bulgarian citizens and Prosecution for defending basic human decency and for pointing out the wrong”, the US Embassy in Sofia wrote in the social networks.

The statement follows the position of Bulgaria’s Prosecutor’s Office which condemned the use of hate speech by MPs in Parliament.

“Often it’s better to ignore obnoxious and hateful rhetoric, and focus on more noble efforts to bring people together. But, sometimes we as a society need to speak out. As philosopher Jean Jacques Rousseau said "Insults are the arguments employed by those who are in the wrong”, the US Embassy in Sofia further wrote.
