On Wednesday (May 18th), the public transport in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia, including the subway, will run along the usual routes. However, there will certainly be difficulties due to the scheduled protests of haulers, taxi drivers and transport unions. The protests are expected to start at 8.00 am. Employees who are not at work will participate at the protests, said Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova.

Employees of Sofia's public transport companies will protest at three locations - the Five Corners (Pette Kyusheta) crossing, Lions' Bridge and Stochna Gara.

Protesters are calling on the state authorities to update the state budget in order to overcome the consequences of the pandemic and offset high energy prices. They also demand higher wages.

Applications for protests were also submitted in the towns of Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Ruse and Pleven.

Last night, at a meeting in the Council of Ministers building, dialogue between Premier Kiril Petkov and the haluers resumed. However, the carriers said they would protest on May 18.
