In a joint statement, the European Commission and the United States described the suspension of gas supplies from Russia to Bulgaria and Poland as "unreasonable and unacceptable." They condemn this action and describe it as "energy blackmail".

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening energy security in Europe through a joint working group on energy security set up by US President Joe Biden and EC President Ursula von der Leyen in late March. The statement emphasized that this group would continue to work on diversifying blue fuel supplies to Europe, the correspondent of the Bulgarian National Radio in Brussels, Angelina Piskova, reported.
