Parliament eased the rules for the construction of RES in Bulgaria

Photo: Archive

Bulgaria's Parliament voted to pass conclusively amendments to the Energy from Renewable Sources (RES) Act simplifying the regime.

A final customer may build power plants harnessing RES on rooftops and facades of buildings, provided the electricity they produce will be used for self-consumption only and the total installed power of the plants is the lower of double the power provided and 5 MW.

The ruling "We Continue the Change", BSP and "There is Such a People" parties announced the legislative changes as a quick measure that will allow every enterprise to reduce its electricity bills. The GERB party welcomed the move for businesses, but saw a loophole for illegally selling electricity from the plants built under the pretext of self-consumption.
