"Today, the Bulgarian parliament took a historic decision by giving a green light to the proposal for EU accession of North Macedonia," Prime Minister Kiril Petkov wrote on Twitter.
In an interview with Politico, the prime minister called on his North Macedonian counterpart, Dimitar Kovacevski, to be brave and accept the French presidency's proposal, although there was a risk that the government could fall. Petkov also said that the offer of the French Presidency should be accepted as a European one and not just as a deal between Bulgaria and North Macedonia.
