Outgoing Minister of Defense: By 2028, Bulgaria should have a squadron of F-16s

An offer for the new F-16 aircraft is expected to be received from the US soon, outgoing Minister of Defense Dragomir Zakov said for bTV. In his words, the first eight fighter jets ordered are already on the assembly line. 

"By 2028the country should have a squadron of F-16 aircraft, Minister Zakov added. At the moment, there is no direct military threat for Bulgaria stemming from the war in Ukraine, Dragomir Zakov said. "Bulgaria is well protected within NATO", outgoing Minister Zakov added, predicting that the war will end at the negotiating table. Dragomir Zakov also said that the salaries of the servicemen and civilians in Bulgaria’s defense system will increase between 16% and 25%.
