BA.4 sub-variant of Omicron detected in Bulgaria

Omicron sub-variant BA.4 has been identified for the first time in Bulgaria, the National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases has announced. 
So far, the sub-variant has been detected in Sofia city and in the Burgas region. Meanwhile, the number of cases with the faster-spreading sub-variant BA.5 is increasing. While in June it was nearly 38% of samples, this month it exceeds 68%. BA.5 is most prevalent in Burgas and Varna districts, followed by Sofia district.
