The governmment is setting up a state-owned company that will carry out air ambulance services, outgoing Prime Minister Kiril Petkov announced before the start of today’s cabinet sitting.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health issued a call for tenders for the purchase of six medical helicopters under the Recovery and Reslience plan. The first machine should arrive at the end of 2023, but there is an option for purchasing two additional helicopters. For a total of 8 helicopters the country would pay almost BGN 162 million (EUR 82 million).

“Bulgaria will, at long last, have an air ambulance service which will be able to render medical assistance within 60 minutes after the incident – the so-called golden hour,” PM Petkov said.
